Are wolf spiders dangerous?
Wolf spiders are venomous (they use venom to subdue prey), but their venom is not medically significant to humans. They rarely bite unless provoked or trapped. A bite typically causes mild pain, redness or swelling, itching or a small rash and occasionally small blisters or visible fang marks.
Serious reactions are very rare and usually linked to allergies.
What to Do If You’re Bitten
- Clean the area with soap and water
- Apply ice to reduce swelling
- Seek medical attention only if symptoms worsen significantly, you experience signs of an allergic reaction or you’re unsure wheter the spider was a wolf spider.
Why They Seem Scary
They’re fast, hairy, and can be up to 1–1.5 inches long. They hunt on the ground instead of using webs, so people encounter them more often.
